Dispatch
The Grand Junction Regional Communication Center (GJRCC) is a 24 hour, 365 day operation, responsible for answering 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls, including text to 9-1-1 requests for help. The GJRCC has a staff of 43 Emergency Communication Specialists, eight Supervisors, a Quality Assurance Analyst, an Audio Technician, and a 9-1-1 Center Manager. Together we are responsible for dispatching 12 law enforcement entities and 14 fire/EMS entities.
Using Text to 911 in Mesa County
Mesa County citizens and visitors can reach 911 by text if necessary. Text to 911 should be used when a voice call is not possible (due to lack of cell coverage or a dangerous situation). The guidance is: Call if You Can, Text If You Must! To reach 911 by text, type 911 into the “to” field on your cell phone text application.
Incident Dispatch Team
The Incident Dispatch Team, which is comprised of members of the GJRCC, responds to large incidents in the Mobile Communication Vehicle and provides on scene dispatch support. Since 2007, when the GJRCC first acquired the Mobile Communication Vehicle, the Incident Dispatch Team has provided support for Country Jam, Rock Jam, Fruita fireworks night, and the Air Show. The team has also responded to many unplanned incidents, including search and rescues in the surrounding mountains, wildfires, major accidents on the interstate, among others.
