Phase 1 Begins for Dual Stream Recycling
Recycling Services
The City of Grand Junction Recycling Division is now introducing Dual Stream Recycling as part of its Trash and Recycling Services. The City recognizes the importance of diverting recyclables and organics from the landfill and works every day to expand and improve our sustainability efforts.
Beginning in March of 2023, some areas of Grand Junction will be phased into receiving curbside collection of recycling separated into two bins, or dual stream. Residents are being notified by mail as areas are phased into the program. Dual stream recycling services offer residents collection in two bins; one bin is used for containers including plastic #1, 2, and 5, and tin and aluminum cans, and another bin for paper, cardboard and fiberboard. At this time, the recycling bins are available in one size, which is 64 gallons. To retain the value of the recyclables and accommodate the current facility, glass will no longer be accepted curbside with the dual stream program but glass is accepted at the Recycling Center drop off on West Avenue.
Collection of recyclable materials will now be performed by an automated truck which will increase the number of households the City can service on a daily basis. The rates are comparable to what customers are accustomed to paying for trash only service and offer a greater value. If customers recycle more, they can reduce the size of their trash can, which results in a lower cost for trash service.
To select Trash and Recycling Services, customers can call 970-244-1570, email recycling@gjcity.org or fill out the Service Form. Questions about the new or existing trash and recycling services? Call 970-256-4136.
