Volunteer Opportunities
You can make a difference in the Parks and Recreation programs! Teens, adults and seniors are encouraged to get involved with our community programs and special events -- you'll have fun, meet new people, and learn lots about the parks. Opportunities abound in our special events, senior activities, and almost every department program. We can place you into a program that fits your interests. Our largest program, girls and boys youth basketball for 2nd - 6th graders, depends upon the commitment of hundreds of volunteer coaches each season. The girl's season begins in October and the boy's season begins in January. If you would like to volunteer your time to teach young children basketball, call 254-FUNN (3866) or stop by the Administration office in Lincoln Park, 1340 Gunnison Avenue to fill out an application. You can also contact Shon Birch for additional information.

Are you a friendly face who could be a helpful ambassador to the Grand Junction community? If so, the Parks and Recreation Department needs you! Become part of the volunteer Trail Host program. Trail Hosts casually walk, bike or rollerblade the sidewalks of downtown or the trails on the riverfront to serve as a friendly presence in the community. If you are interested, please bring your completed application to the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department at 1340 Gunnison Avenue.

For more information about the Trail Host program please email Emily Wright or call 254-3866.
