Grand Junction Fire Dept. Alarm Types
All calls for service will
fall into one of the following classifications:
STILL ASSIGNMENT: An
emergent non-structural fire such as a car fire, weed fire less
than one acre in size, dumpster fire, etc., remote from any structure.
Still assignments will receive
a first due engine or truck company.
SPECIAL DUTY ASSIGNMENT:
Responses such as smoke checks outside a structure, after hours
code violations, illegal burning, vehicle fuel tank leaks, public
assistance calls, HazMat, CO calls, etc.
Special duty assignments
will receive a first due engine or truck company unless otherwise
specified by the Shift Commander.
RESCUE
ASSIGNMENT: Responses including the following incidents;
Ice-Rescue
Assignment
Ice-rescue assignment will consist
of the first due Grand Junction Fire Department station plus the
Technical Ice-Rescue Team, currently Stations 1 and 4, the team
will respond with Rescue 11 and other support apparatus from Stations
1 and 4. An ice-rescue assignment is a rescue of people trapped,
stranded, or persons fell through ice.
Rope Rescue Assignment
Rope rescue assignment will consist
of the first due Grand Junction Fire Department station plus the
Technical Rope Rescue team, currently Stations 1 and 4, the team
will respond with Rescue 11 and other support apparatus from Stations
1 and 4. A rope rescue assignment is a rescue of people trapped,
stranded, or persons that fell from a hill, cliff, or a high-rise
building.
Water Rescue Assignment
Water rescue assignment
will consist of the first due Grand Junction Fire Department station
plus the Technical Water Rescue team, currently Stations 1 and 4,
the team will respond with Rescue 11 and Boat 14. A water rescue
assignment is a rescue of people trapped, stranded, or persons in
the water.
STRUCTURE ASSIGNMENT:
Any known or suspected fire within or directly threatening a structure.
Automatic alarms in hospitals, nursing homes, large one-story buildings,
or buildings of two or more stories.
Structure assignments will
receive one Battalion Chief, one ladder and two (2) engine companies
on all known or suspected structure fires.
EMS ASSIGNMENT: All
requests for medical assistance. This will include both emergent
and non-emergent calls.
EMS assignments will receive
a Engine Co. (at Paramedic's or Company Officers discretion), plus
GJFD ambulance. One paramedic shall respond on all EMS calls whenever
possible. All vehicle accidents, rescues, etc., will receive at
least an engine company response with a GJFD ambulance.
BRUSH ASSIGNMENT: A
weed or brush fire involving an area greater than one acre and/or
endangering a structure.
Brush assignments will receive
one engine company or Brush truck and Battalion 11.
SECOND AND THIRD ALARMS:
These will be at the request of Command. The type and number of
units will be requested by Command.
MUTUAL AID ASSIGNMENTS:
Requests for assistance from an agency other than the Grand Junction
Fire Department. This could be a request for this Department to
provide assistance or for assistance from another agency. The Shift
Commander or IC will clear all requests for mutual aid.
AIRPORT ALERT: These
will be calls involving aircraft in trouble.
Alert assignments will receive
a Battalion Chief, Engine 12, Engine 13 and Water 13
AIRCRAFT CRASH: This
involves one or more aircraft that has crashed.
RAIL ASSIGNMENT: All
train incidents.
Rail assignments will receive
one engine, one ambulance, one battalion chief.
