2020 Comprehensive Plan

Comp Plan logo
Dear Community Member

We invite you to participate in helping the City plan for the future. The City of Grand Junction is conducting a 2020 Comprehensive Plan update over the next 18 months and is seeking public input. A new website has been launched to help in that effort and we want people to know about it.

We also ask you to share this information about the comprehensive plan and process with your friends and colleagues.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is a critical road map to guide decisions about a community's future and may include elements such as housing, recreation, tourism, the economy and transportation.

Our update is a long-range plan that will look at issues such as where and how we will grow over the next 20 years. The Plan will include planning for residential and commercial growth and needed services and infrastructure (parks, utilities, roads, police, fire, etc.) and will also evaluate potential changes to the City’s growth boundary, identify risks and vulnerabilities of natural and human caused hazards. Perhaps most importantly, the Plan will work to identify goals, strategies and actions that reflect the values and vision for the community as a whole; one Grand Junction.

Get involved!

In this planning process the City and its Consultant team, Houseal Lavigne, is seeking input from everyone.  The following community meetings have been scheduled:

  1. Community Workshop.  Everyone in the community is invited.  This meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 9th at 6:00 pm at Two Rivers Convention Center, 159 Main Street, downtown Grand Junction. **Bring your children 4 years old and up to enjoy games and activities with our Parks and Recreation staff while parents attend the Community Workshop.**

  2. Business Workshop.  This meeting is specific to the business community and has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 10th at 7:30 am.  The Planning Team is looking for input from a business perspective. The meeting will be held at the Chamber of Commerce offices, 360 Grand Avenue in downtown Grand Junction.

How do I access the Website?

You can access the Comprehensive Plan website here.  The website provides information about the comprehensive plan, the planning process, and how to get involved. The website also includes a mapping tool that allows for input specific to locations within the community, allows opportunities for written comments, provides a survey that you can take and allows you to view what the community sees as current issues, community assets and future opportunities.  Please check it out and share it with everyone!

We encourage you to attend the April 9th Community Workshop.  It will be a great chance for you to provide your ideas and see and hear what the community is saying.  Please join us.

Thanks for participating!
