Privacy Policy

Thank you for visiting the official website of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado (City). This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we gather when you visit our website, how that information is used, as well as some of the steps we take to safeguard it.

Website Purpose

The City’s web pages are posted to make useful and practical information available to City residents, businesses and visitors. The City's websites and the sites to which any of them may be linked are not intended or provided to serve as a forum for free discussion or posting of information.

Information Collection

When you visit our website we do not collect personal information about you unless you choose to provide that information to us. We do collect limited, non-personally identifying information which your browser makes available automatically whenever you visit any website. That information includes the internet address of your computer or network, the date, time, and page you visited on our site, your browser and operating system and the referring page (the last webpage you visited before clicking on a link to our site). We use the aggregated information from all of our visitors to measure server performance, analyze user traffic patterns and improve the content of our site. We sometimes track the keywords that are entered into our search engine to measure interest in specific topics, but we do not track which terms a particular user enters.

Some of our online services require you to register/create an account. If you register/create and account we ask you for some personal information in order to create an account (typically your name, email address and a password) and we will use that information to provide you service. For certain services, such as our online payment, we may request credit card or other payment information which may be stored temporarily in encrypted form on secure servers.

The City uses software programs to monitor network traffic and identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage. Except for authorized law enforcement investigations and the security purposes mentioned elsewhere in this policy, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their usage habits.

Collection of Personally Identifiable Information

"Personal information" is information about an individual that is readily identifiable to that specific individual. Personal information includes things like an individual's name, address and telephone number. A domain name or IP address is not considered personal information. The City strives to collect the minimum information necessary to comply with applicable law in order to provide the requested service. The City does not sell or rent users information, including electronic mail addresses, to any outside company or organization. We will only release information when legally required to do so.

The City sometimes contracts with third-parties for internet-related services. Those providers’ privacy policies may differ from the City’s. When you are being redirected to a third-party website from the City’s website we will provide notice. If you proceed to use the third parties services we strongly encourage you to review that provider’s privacy statement.
