Persigo Wastewater Plant Information

Q1:    Where is the treatment plant located?

The Persigo wastewater treatment facility is located at: 2145 River Road in Grand Junction, CO. 81505.

Q2:    How do I get to the Persigo Wastewater Treatment Plant?

Traveling on I-70 come to exit #26 (22 Road). Turn East on to Hwy 6&50 and in 0.8 miles you will see a sign on the right-side for Walker State Wildlife Park. Turn right at the next intersection and cross over the railroad tracks. Turn right again (this is River Road) and the plant is 1.3 miles down the road on the left-hand side.

Q3:   How much wastewater can the plant handle?
Design capacity for the plant is 12.5 million gallons per day.

Q4:   Where does the wastewater come from?

The wastewater is generated at homes, schools, churches, and industries, anyplace that is tied into the sewer system.

Q5:    How does the wastewater get to the treatment plant?

The wastewater travels to the treatment facility through 462 miles of pipelines in the 201 sewer system.

Q6:    Do you have sludge for sale or to give away?

Due to Federal regulations, at this time we are prevented from selling or giving away sludge.

Q7:    Whom do I call for a tour of the plant?

Please call 256-4180 to schedule a tour.
Q8:     Do you have a septic dumpsite, who can use it and is there a charge?
Yes, we do. It is available to the general public at no charge and businesses are charged a fee. Come in the main gate and to the main office to sign-in and let us know you are dumping. We will give you further information at that time.

Sewer Line Problems

Q1:    When I have a backup or odor problem should I call a plumber or roto-rooter service?

First call the Persigo Wastewater Plant at 256-4180. We will come out, free of charge and check the main line, clean it and let you know what we find.

Q2:   If the problem is after hours who should I call?
The direct line after hours is 256-8333. If that line is busy, you can also call 242-6707. As a last resort you can always call 911.
Q3:  If I have a cleanup and/or damage due to a sewer backup, what do I do?
The first thing to do is to get it cleaned up as soon as possible, keeping all receipts of clean up or damage costs. If the City's main line was obstructed, we have a cleanup assistance program. Further information will be left with you.
Q4:   What is my responsibility as a homeowner for a sewer line problem?

You are responsible for your line that comes from your house out to and including the connection into the City's main line. This is not necessarily restricted to your property line.

Q5:  If I have to repair my line and my responsibility is to the City's main line, what do I do about going into or under a City street or alley?
You and/or your contractor are required to obtain a cut permit from the City of Grand Junction, Public Works Engineering Dept., at 244-1554.

Q6:    If I need assistance from one of the sanitation districts, whom do I call?

The sanitation districts phone numbers are:

Q1: How do I find out if there are sewer lines available to connect into at my location?

You should first contact the Public Works Engineering Dept. and talk to the Utility Engineer at 244-1590.

Q2: What are the sewer rates?

Sewer rates vary as to the sanitation district you are located in and water usage for businesses. Please note that the City's sewer fund is self-supporting. This means that we must cover our costs of providing services from our revenues only. General tax dollars are not used in providing sewer services to our customers. For more specific rate information please contact Customer Service.
