Weed abatement and control in public areas has been a part
of the City's responsibilities from the time weed control ordinances were mandated many years ago.
One of the City's goals in the "Strategic Plan 2002 - 2012" is to improve communications and public understanding on the importance of weed ordinances and how compliance makes our community a better place to live.
City Council members and City staff work together as a team to better inform residents of their responsibilities as well as the responsibilties of the City, assure the City complies with its own ordinances, increase public awareness of the City's efforts to contol weeds, and modify existing ordinances to reflect current weed control needs.
The City's weed control activities reside in two areas:
The goal of the Weed Abatement Program is to keep the City looking neat, clean, and presentable. Both City and resident compliance with weed ordinances is a large step in reaching this goal.
To accomplish required weed control demands, the Weed Abatement Program focuses efforts
on major travelled roadways and state highways - within
City limits. A combination of rigidly controlled use of herbicide sprays, hand cutting, and tractor mowing effectively controls weed growth on large parcels, drainage channels, and stormwater detention facilities. For additional information,
