25
½ Road Reconstruction Project The primary purpose of the 25
½ Road Reconstruction project—starting in May
2004 and complete in September 2004—was to improve roadway
safety by eliminating existing hazards and improving the 4,000
linear feet of roadway to safely accommodate pedestrians,
bicycles, and motor vehicles. The improvements included a
continuous curb, gutter, sidewalk, and bike lane on both sides
of the street; one traffic lane in each direction; a center
turn lane; street lighting; a storm drainage collection system;
and relocation of overhead utilities underground. In addition,
the south approach to intersection of 25½ Road and
Patterson Road was be widened for designated left and right
turn lanes.
In order to meet minimum stopping sight distance requirements
on 25½ Road, the roadway was lowered approximately
7 feet at its intersection with West Orchard Avenue. This
elevation change required removal of this intersection and
access to the west end of West Orchard from Bass Street only.
The existing overhead power lines and television cables along
the east side of 25 ½ Road were relocated underground
between Patterson Road and West Pinyon Avenue.
