National Night Out
August 4, 2009
What is National Night Out?
National Night Out, "America's night out against crime," was introduced to America in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit, crime prevention organization that works with citizen-led watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country. In 2006, more than 34 million people from all 50 states got involved.
NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation.
Why Should You Participate?
National Night out events give neighbors a chance to get to know each other, share comments and concerns, and become more aware of possible crime in the area. National Night Out is also a great way to "re-charge" your neighborhood and a great way to make new friends, and is a long tradition that occurs throughout the United States.
