A staff of 32 provides dispatching services and support for the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center (GJRCC). Every year, the GJRCC receives over 115,000 calls for service. Telecommunicators provide primary communication service for 18 public safety agencies in Mesa County except the Colorado State Patrol, which has its own dispatch center.
Eight months of classroom and on-the-job training must be completed before a telecommunicator can solely run a dispatch console. This extensive training includes required certification for Emergency Medical Dispatching, CPR, and Colorado and national crime information computer operation.
