The City Forestry Division inspects and maintains Grand Junction's
huge urban Forest. This crew is responsible for trimming,
planting, insect and disease control, fertilization,
removal of dead or hazardous trees, stump removal,
street sign and street light clearance of city and private
trees. In addition to tree maintenance, the division responds
to thousands of citizen requests for tree service each year.
The forestry division is responsible for the trees within
all city parks, cemeteries,
Lincoln Park and Tiara Rado golf courses, Riverfront
trail system, Downtown Shopping Park, city facilities
and all trees located on city streets within the right-of-way.
The forestry crews maintain well over 7,000 park and facility
trees, over 20,500 right-of-way trees, and an estimated 2,000
trees on the Riverfront trail system.
Street Tree Planting
This popular program consists
of trees being planted by the division in the city right-of-way
areas located in front of
homeowners’ property. The Forestry Division, at no cost
to the property owner, does the planting. The property owner
is responsible for watering the tree(s). Eligible participants
must live within the city limits and must have maintained
grass,
or an operable irrigation system in place. There are also
requirements regarding sight distance at intersections and
spacing with existing trees and structures. Criteria are evaluated
on an individual basis.
