The Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department provides year-around programming at two aquatic facilities: the Lincoln Park-Moyer Pool and Waterslide, and the Orchard Mesa Community Center Pool.
City facilities and programs reflect national trends indicating that more people participate in aquatic-based recreation and sport than any other activity! Also, did you know that swimming is a skill for life? Drowning is one of the leading causes of unintentional deaths for youth and adults. Our swim lessons teach safety awareness, which may prevent the loss of life. Supervision is still required, but being proficient in the water by learning skills and safety is a primary benefit of quality swim lessons.
Our lifeguards are skilled and trained to assist in making City facilities safe places to bring the family. However, they are NOT baby-sitters. Parents and older siblings are asked to watch children and to assist in enforcing the policies for the safety and enjoyment of all pool patrons. All swimmers 8 years and younger are to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Many programs are offered on a seasonal basis, with many sessions per year offered for an extensive Learn to Swim program for both youth and adults that includes adaptive swim for individuals with disabilities, SCUBA and snorkeling, springboard diving, lifeguard training and junior instructor, and a beginner competitive swim program. Special Events are held throughout the year for a variety of holidays, special days, birthdays and celebrations. Check our seasonal Activity Guide to view all our our exciting programs.
Learn to Swim scholarships are available. To qualify, the child's current Medicaid card must be presented at registration. Please contact Larry Manchester, 970-254-3844 for scholarship information.
