Sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and International Association of Fire Fighters in partnership with other national fire service organizations. The theme for this year’s event was Fit for Duty. With more than 50% of fire fighter line-of-duty deaths caused by health and fitness related issues both organizations believe it is imperative that there be a concentrated effort in implementing wellness and fitness programs. Our activities were held on June 23-25 and consisted of annual fitness testing, orientation on how to use the back strengthening machine, infectious disease refresher, and a short PowerPoint (at the stations) focusing on food and nutrition, fitness, stress management, tobacco cessation, suicide prevention and alcohol and drugs.
