Grand Junction Fire
Department Investigations
The
Grand Junction Fire Department Investigations Section investigates
all fires that occur in the City of Grand Junction or the Grand
Junction Rural Fire Protection District. The purpose of the investigation
is to determine the fire origin and cause.
The Division is managed by a Fire
Captain who coordinates information regarding all fire investigations.
In addition to the Fire Captain, there are six shift investigators
that are assigned to 24-hour shifts. Investigators are Colorado
Peace Officer certified and have the ability and authority to conduct
criminal investigations. This certification and law enforcement
training is necessary for the investigation of fires which are determined
to be incendiary or arson.
Division investigators work cases from the initial
on-scene investigation through the arrest and prosecution phase
when appropriate.
The
Investigations Division coordinates and investigates between 500
and 600 fire annually. Approximately 25-30% of all fires investigated
are determined to be arson and require further criminal follow-up.
The Grand Junction Fire Department is committed to
investigating all fires in an effort to make Grand Junction a safer
community. The Fire Investigations Division is very interested in
receiving any information the public may have which would assist
in the investigation of fires or related criminal acts.
