Fire Station 1 opened in1963 as a one story structure. A second story was added in 1977 which allowed for the traditional fire pole to be installed. In addition to fire and EMS response, the station responds on specialty rescue assignments including water, trench, confined space, extrication and technical rope rescue. Administrative offices for the Grand Junction Fire Department are also located in this facility.
Business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except weekends and holidays. Response unit identifications are based on a county wide two digit system. The first digit denotes organization (Grand Junction, Clifton, Lower Valley, etc) and the second digit denotes the station assignment. For example Ladder 11 is from GJFD at station #1.
