Chip Games
Chip Game Summary Report
The Comprehensive Plan process gave residents an opportunity to suggest where and how to accommodate new growth so that Grand Junction remains a desirable community. Public Comprehensive Plan workshops were held at three locations in October 2007: Two Rivers Convention Center, Pear Park Elementary, and The Canyon View Vineyard Church. Attendees played the "Chip Game" -- deciding where to locate future growth by placing "chips" of varying land use types and density througout the upper Grand Valley. Additional opportunities are scheduled in upcoming weeks. if you are interested in participating, individually or as a group, please contact Dave Thornton, Principal Planner at (970) 244-1450.
During the work sessions, attendees also completed a "keypad" opinion poll soliciting their feedback on a variety of community issues. Take the survey yourself
The "Chip Game" was used as an educational tool to inform residents of what the current growth issues are and to give them an opportunity to decide where and how to accomodate future growth. The results of these "Chip Games" have been consolidated into the following concepts and components:
- Transportation Connectivity
- Shopping Closer to Where People Live
- Respect Sensitive Lands (River)
- Efficient Future Growth
- A Grand Green System (Parks, Open Space, Trails)
- Improve Downtown / Grow Downtown
- Affordable Housing
- More Mixed Use and Housing Variety
- System of Connected Centers
- More Compact Growth (Less Sprawl)
- Realize Infill & Redevelopment Potential
