Why Do We Need a Comprehensive Plan?

View the full version of the Problem Statement

Problem Statement

  • Grand Junction is expected to nearly double in population by 2035
  • If we want to preserve our quality of life, we need to plan for that growth.
  • Our current land use patterns have resulted in traffic congestion and long commutes to work and shopping.
  • We have limited land to accommodate a projected doubling of our population.
  • Low density sprawl results in higher costs to provide services.
  • Continuing to develop in this manner is irresponsible.
  • There is no comprehensive plan to guide decision-makers.
  • A comprehensive plan will guide future development based on the community's values and vision for the future.
  • It would be irresponsible not to plan for growth.

Together We Will find a Solution.
