Permanent Signs

  • All new signs require a permit.
  • Alterations by paint or an overlay require a permit.
  • Signs moved from one location to another require a permit.
  • Permits will only be issued to a licensed sign contractor to ensure conformity to the current code.
  • Sign types in non-residential zones include flush wall, freestanding, projecting or roof.
  • Maximum size and number of signs are based on linear footage of the building, linear frontage of the property on the adjacent right-of-way.
  • Permits are available at City Hall, 250 N. 5th St. Please call 244-1430.
  • Sign permits are $25.00

 

Wind-driven Signs

Require a Special Event permit have specific time limitations and include banners, balloons, inflatables and strings of pennants or flags (except US and Colorado flags). Anyone can obtain a permit; a licensed sign contractor is not required. Sample Permit

Portable Signs

One on premise portable sign such as a sandwich board or A-frame is allowed next to the building in shopping areas designed to invite pedestrian traffic. Only one portable sign is allowed per business and there are size restrictions. Please click here for restrictions.

Campaign Signs

Campaign signs are allowed on private property sixty (60) days before the primary election and are to be removed ten (10) days after the election.

Prohibited Signs Include:

  • Off premise real estate signs.
  • Signs that flash, blink, move, chase or have any animation effects.
  • Signs that imitate an official traffic sign or signal.
  • Any sign that does not comply with the City of Grand Junction's Sign Code or is erected without a permit.
  • Any sign placed in City right-of way, blocking sidewalks or creating a safety hazard may be confiscated.
