What is the Citizens'
Academy?
You may not think that a narcotics
expert, a pastry chef, and an auto mechanic would work at the
same place. In addition to these skilled professionals, the
City of Grand Junction employs people who can produce pure drinking water,
negotiate in a hostage crisis, design a website, prepare a banquet, contain
a hazardous materials spill, answer your billing questions, fix computers,
design bridges, or help you improve your golf swing. No matter how nicely you
ask though, none of them can give you a driver’s license. Given the wide
variety of services offered, it can be hard to keep track of everything the
City provides – and also
what it doesn’t provide. Recently, numerous Grand
Junction residents have had the opportunity to attend "GJ 101", a citizens’ academy
aimed at answering this and many other questions. GJ101
provides citizens a behind-the-scenes, interactive view
of everything the City does and will provide participants many
hands-on experiences.
If you have ever wanted to learn more
about the operation of the City of Grand Junction , please
consider applying. We’re
always looking for a class of motivated and interested students,
and we’re hoping to answer any questions you have.
GJ 101 takes place over three consecutive weeks with each class requiring approximately two hours of your
time, plus a week of tours and demonstrations. Sessions are usually offered every spring.
